Hi Bishop Miller! Can you speak a bit more to your recommendation for the RSV as your first choice? We use NRSV in church - I think? I make no claim to scholarship, but I thought the main difference between these two translations was gender-neutral language. Are there other differences that impact Bible study or meaning/ideology?
Again, admitting my biblical non-scholarship, but in googling and using the "almighty Wikipedia" --grin-- for a quick overview of some differences between RSV/NRSV and NEB/REB maybe these differences are more significant? Word for word translation attempt vs thought for thought translation attempt respectively was what I inferred there. (?)
What is your opinion on how this difference matters to an average layperson wishing to faithfully, but perhaps not in-depth scholarly approach bible study? What do you see as the pros and cons of these two translation approaches?
Thanks! Bye for now. - Karla (St L's Madison)
